Satellites

On monday 18, feb 08 Ana's father (who works for ISRO) did a presentation on satellites. He did a very great job, and now I know so much about satellites. Satellites have been used for many things like, television, internet, gps navigater, telephone, etc. Because of satellites we have all of these things. Also satellites can pin point your exact location from space and you can see it on internet in sites such as google earth. The way satellites do this from space is they orbit the Earth and then take pictures everywhere with super cameras and then they send to the computers which you can see. Also I used to think that satellites were no bigger than just a queen size bed but, they can turn out to be as big as a whole master bedroom. So I have learnt alot about satellites because of Mr. Choi and now I know more about space.

The Technological Advancements in Space Exploration

Scientists know lots more about space because of all the technological advancements in space exploration. Some advancements are:
  • First only animals and robots were going into space but now humans are going there.
  • People first went so close to the Earth but now people are going much further into space.
  • Humans first only used to go just for a short while into space but then astronauts started staying in space for months and even years.
  • There was only space ships that astronauts could use only once therefor when they go into space and then come back to Earth again they can not use that space ship again, but now people are making types that are reusable.
  • During the space missions ,scientists find out more about how to make better equipment and they learn more about medical information.
  • New space crafts are being developed e.g. x34 and x33 which will make a space mission much cheaper.
  • Also space crafts are being developed whhich will enable everyone to go into space- not just astronuats.

Because of all these advancements we know lots more about space.

My father's presentation

My father came on Monday 18th February 2008 at 1:00 p.m. He did a presentation about satellites in the AV room. Both grade 5A and 5B went there, too.
My dad started the presentation by showing us Indus School on the computer to show what an observation satellite does. Then he talked about satellites and how tiny we were, in a fun and interesting way. He even made a PPT. He even showed us a movie about satellites for a short time.
What I have learned about satellites is that there are three sorts of satellites: communication satellites (provide all the communication means), observation satellites (monitor the earth and take various kinds of photos, to help people), and navigation satellite (helps people to locate themselves at any moment and anywhere around the world). I’ve also learned that without satellites, we wouldn’t have television, phones, computers, Earth’s photos, etc. It’s all because of satellites. The moon is a satellite, too. Satellites are objects that orbit a planet. Lots of satellites were launched. A satellite is nearly the size of the AV room.
I’ve learnt a lot during my father’s presentation. And all my classmates said it was the best presentation out of all the ones that the parents did. Even our teacher loved it.

Space

The Solar system consists of the Sun and nine planets. These differ in weights, Jupiter is the largest and Pluto is the smallest. The gravity on the planets are also different, the gravity is proportional to the weight. So, Jupiter has the highest gravity and Pluto has the smallest. The planets are rotating on their axes. For example, the day and night of the Earth is the rotation of one revolution.
The satellits and space probes have been become very useful and important when exploring and investigating the planets since measurements and monitoring can be performed without the disturbance of the atmosphere.
The Americans and Russians performed a joint research project with the space ship MIR. For example, the Russian constructed the solar cells for providing electricity. However, also other countries were involved in the MIR project. An other example of international space cooperation is the Swedish site Esrange (situated at latitude 69 degrees), where different European nations do investigations, in particular the Nordic Light.

The Technological Advancements in space exploration

There have been so many advances in space exploration for example
  • First people used look up at the stars and used to be happy but now people have advanced so much you can actully go up into space.
  • First only dogs and robots used to go up into space because it was not that safe for humans now humans live up in space for a long time.
  • First people used to think the sun used to revolve around the Earth but now we know that all the planets revolve around the sun.
  • First the telescopes wouldn't be that strong so we couldn't take very clear pictures but in 1990 Hubble Space Telescope was sent now the pictures are clear. Soon Japan is also going to send up a telescope better than Hubble.
  • First humans used to stay very close to the Earth but now humans have even walked on the Moon.
  • First humans used stay up in space for only for 1 or 2 days but because of the International Space Station humans stay up in space for 6 months at a time.
  • First only Russia and Usa were in the space race but now even developing countries like India are sending people into space.
  • When astronauts or cosmonauts go into space for many months they don't need to take loads of food they just take a tiny capsule.

There are so many advancements in space exploration.

Technological Advancements in Space Exploration

  • There have been many advancements in Space exploration…

    · At first, an astronaut could not even go two meters into space. Now astronauts can go many, many miles into space.

    · Also, the first astronaut in space could only make a few orbits around the Earth. Now, astronauts are making hundreds of orbits around the Earth.

    · After sending many space probes, shuttles, rockets, satellites, etc., scientists and astronomers discovered, and are still discovering lots of things about space and the planets of the Solar System.

    · Now, if astronauts and cosmonauts have to go in space for many months, they don’t have to take loads of food with them. They can survive with just one tiny capsule and stay healthy.

    · Space exploration is getting so advanced that now a hotel is being built on the moon.

    · At first, only robots were being sent into space. But now, because of technology, many humans are going into space.

    · Before, space travel was really risky, and many of the missions in space were unsuccessful. But now space travel has become much safer.

    · The very first telescopes could not magnify much. But now, they can magnify much, much more. Also, because of technology, a big and powerful telescope has been put in space called the Hubble Space Telescope.

    · As space exploration advances, better space probes, rockets, shuttles, satellites, etc. are being sent into space, enabling scientists and astronomers to get better and more information about space.

    · At first, astronauts could only go in space for a few hours, then days, then weeks, and now they can stay in space for many, many months.

    · In the beginning of space exploration, only America and Russia were sending things and people into space. Now China and even a developing country like India are sending things into space.

The Benefits of Space Exploration

I wrote down points about the benefits of space exploration.

· Contact lenses were made because of space exploration.

· Laser techniques were made because of space exploration so you don’t need to cut the skin.

· Humans are building a hotel on the moon, for others to go there as a vacation.

· Because of space exploration, lung cancer can be cured.

· In space, astronauts used light shoes so it would be easier to move around. And now almost everybody on Earth uses them.
The cloths that the astronauts are wearing are very useful for people who cannot stay outside for a long time because of the sun.

The Technological Advancements in Space Exploration

I wrote down the points about the technological advancenents in space exploration.

· Earlier humans were happy even when they saw space with their naked eyes, but now
people are going into space.

· First people went around the Earth once, then twice, then twice or three times, then for two weeks, then for months!!!

· Humans are going deeper in space every month.

· People are so advanced about space that they are building a hotel on the moon!!

· It was so risky for humans to go into space that they firstly sent animals and robots, then sometimes humans went but some of them died, and now people are so sure not to lose their lives that even untrained people go into space.

· Rockets that couldn’t even go up 2 meters can now reach Pluto’s orbit.

· Humans are making better space flights every year: rockets, then Space Shuttles, then Space Stations, then Hubble Telescopes, then The International Space Station, etc.

· People had to carry loads of food to stay in space but now one capsule of food is enough for a day which means they don’t need to carry that much food as they did.
